Target Acquisition Designation Sight, Pilot Night Vision System - The Target Acquisition Designation Sight, Pilot Night Vision System (TADS/PNVS) is the combined sensor and targetting unit fitted to the AH-64 Apache helicopter. It comprises two independent systems, described below:
Line of sight - When viewing a scene, as in optics, photography, or even hunting, the line of sight is the straight line between the observer and the target. In astronomy, when the distance between the observer and the distant objects is large, the light of sight can often be taken as the straight line between the earth and the target.
Gyro gunsight - A gyro gunsight is a type of gunsight in which target lead (the amount of aim-off in front of a moving target) and bullet drop are allowed-for automatically, the sight incorporating a gyroscopic mechanism that computes the neccesary deflections required to ensure a hit on the target. The sight was developed during the Second World War for aircraft use during aerial combat.
Fire-and-forget - Fire and forget is a third-generation method of missile guidance. The military use the term for a type of missile which does not require further guidance after launch such as illumination of the target, and can hit its target without the launcher being in line of sight of the target.
